Local Area
High Bentham is a small market town with a wide range of shops including a Post
Office, two bakeries, two small supermarkets and an 18 hole golf course.
Low Bentham has a village store and a post office, and two public
houses serving food.
There are many country pubs in the area, offering considerable choice and a good
range of restaurants to suit every taste within easy reach.
We are on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the Lake District
is within easy reach.
Ingleton, just over four miles away at the foot of Ingleborough, offers dramatic
scenery with spectacular waterfalls and caves. The area is renowned as the site
where the ‘Three Peaks Fell Race’ is run annually.
There are countless opportunities for walking in the local countryside, in the
nearby dales, and in the Lakes; there are wonderful estuaries, river walks, fells,
pot-holes, and, for the more adventurous, rock faces to be climbed.
Permits are available for fishing in local ponds, reservoirs and rivers, the latter
supporting trout, and migratory sea trout and salmon.
The nearest RSPB reserve is at Leighton Moss and the west coast, so renowned for
its wading birds, is just 15 miles away. At Settle there is a falconry centre where
you can watch birds of prey in action.
The city of Lancaster (12 miles away) has cinemas and theatres and many historic
sites well worth a visit.
See 'Useful Links' page for a sample of the huge range of opportunities available
locally.
